San Jose, CA Water Distribution and Pressure Zone Control System
Owner: San Jose Water Company
Location: San Jose, CA

As the largest and most technically sophisticated urban water system in the United States, the San Jose Water Company is an investor owned water company headquartered in Silicon Valley and was founded in 1866. The San Jose Water Company serves one million people with life sustaining, high quality water.

Transdyn was selected to provide a water distribution Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the Water Company. Managed by DYNAC®, the control system included 120 Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and a redundant master station with three workstations. The RTUs provide autonomous and remote control of pumping stations in addition to SCADA function. The master station is programmed to provide management of power demand at pump stations.

All data communications are via 928/956 MHz point-to-multipoint radio and 18 GHz point-to-point microwave radio. Operators can remotely access the system over VHF packet radio. The multiple address radio communication system consists of two separate redundant base stations and over 100 remote radios. Also included is a point-to-point 14 GHz digital microwave system with data and voice multiplex which links the Control Center to the base stations.
