Located in Santa Clara County, the City of Sunnyvale is an urban industrial and residential community of 132,000 residents. The City provides water service to residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional customers within a service area of 24 square miles and assures delivery of the highest quality potable water.
Transdyn provided the City of Sunnyvale with a SCADA system designed to monitor and control remote sites including pump stations and wells. DYNAC® ES software and radio communication equipment was installed at the City’s control center, along with RTUs, associated field instruments and radio communication equipment at remote sites located within the City of Sunnyvale.
The SCADA system is comprised of DYNAC® ES software running on redundant servers with 2 workstations communicating over a Fast Ethernet LAN located at the City's Corporation yard. The system communicates with 27 remote pumping station and well sites via redundantly configured licensed spread spectrum radios.
Each remote site is equipped with a PLC/RTU that communicates back to the Corporation yard via licensed and spread spectrum radio systems.
The RTUs at the remote sites are used to control pumps, valves and other devices as well as to report information such as water flow and pressure back to the Corporation yard.
Video security surveillance cameras are also installed at 8 of the remote sites; images from the cameras are sent back to the Corporation yard via the radio system for display on the DYNAC operator workstations. Critical alarms are also transmitted to operator's cellular telephones phones via SMS text messages.
