Towngas provides safe and clean fuel to the people of Hong Kong. Founded in 1862, the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (also known as Towngas) is the oldest public utility in Hong Kong, and the first gas utility in the Far East. Today, Towngas produces and distributes gas, markets gas and gas appliances, and supplies town gas (manufactured gaseous fuel) and related services.
The Towngas supply network extends over 3,000 kilometers, covering 85 percent of Hong Kong’s households and serving over 1.6 million households and businesses in Hong Kong. Transdyn was selected to design, supply, and commission the original DYNAC® system for the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited and recently upgraded the computer system to the DYNAC ES version.
The DYNAC ES SCADA software, which runs on a fully redundant master station, monitors and controls over 1,800 real-time telemetered measurements, and controls strategic pressure-regulating stations. Remote terminal units (RTUs) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) from several vendors are distributed throughout the territory and communicate via leased telephone lines and a wide area network (WAN) to the SCADA control center. The DYNAC ES SCADA system enhances Towngas’ operational efficiency and its effectiveness in handling emergency situations.
Towngas is an authorized integrator of DYNAC ES. They have formed over 20 strategic partnerships in major cities throughout China to install the DYNAC ES software for the management of newly available natural gas. Towngas has the capability to implement, support, and maintain these systems and is aggressively seeking new opportunities in gas distribution and other SCADA markets in China.
